Stemiverse is a podcast where Dr. Peter Dalmaris talks with educators worldwide about important topics in STEM Education.

In March 2019, Peter Dalmaris interviewed Jeff Wiener, a staff scientist at CERN, managing the Teacher Programmes to further train teachers in particle physics. In this particular segment of the podcast, Jeff and Peter discuss the importance of education at CERN, as one of the key missions of the organization.

There is no way we can run a lab like this without training the scientists of tomorrow!
- Jeff Wiener, CERN Teacher Manager

The aim is to impart knowledge to young people and draw them closer to science and technology in order for them to have at least a basic understanding of the scientific world. This is done through the teacher programmes at CERN, where teachers worldwide are invited to stay at CERN and learn about scientific advancements with CERN scientists and experts. The teachers receive a first-hand educational experience at CERN that they can pass on to their students in school.

The podcast discusses various topics, from the importance of providing ground breaking learning opportunities and spreading scientific awareness among young people, to the different kinds of teacher programmes offered at CERN, being both nationally and internationally focussed.

National Teacher Programmes at CERN are partly funded via private donations thanks to the CERN & Society Foundation, the charitable arm of CERN, whose aim is to spread CERN's scientific curiosity for the inspiration and benefit of society.
